IGDA announces Irish development conference

The Irish chapter of the IGDA has announced plans for the first game development conference ever to take place in the country, with a one-day event scheduled for Friday, October 15th.

Titled Awakenings '04, the event will be presented by the IGDA's Jason Della Rocca, with a keynote from Graham Devine and session speakers including Chris van der Kuyl and Markus Maki.

The event is free to attend, and takes place in the Northwest Institute of Further and Higher Education in Derry. Irish developers and middleware companies will also be exhibiting at the conference during the coffee and lunch breaks.

"Irish game and middleware developers such as Havok, Kapooki, Torc Interactive, Demonware and Meedja have been telling the world at large about the talent and skill in Ireland for years," according to IGDA Ireland chapter co-ordinator Tony Kelly.

"Now they are starting to realise what we have to offer. Awakenings aims to place Ireland on the games industry map and explore the challenges facing Ireland in this fast changing industry," he continued.

Anyone interested in attending or exhibiting at the conference should get in touch with the organisers at info@awakeningsconf.com.
