Hut Group appoints new operations director

E-commerce business and Zavvi retailer also announces free next-day delivery plans

The Hut Group has appointed a new operations director to drive company growth and improve customer service, the company announced today.

Simon Parker will take up the role, joining the group from a previous position as warehouse manager for Centresoft. Prior to this, Parker was responsible for transforming the delivery model used by Screwfix.com.

His new job role will see him running the company's just-opened UK warehouse, investing in systems and machinery and looking at opening further warehouses across mainland Europe and the US. This warehouse expansion will enable the business to offer free next-day delivery on all entertainment products - a new service that was also revealed by company today.

"Simon has a huge amount of knowledge in operational efficiencies and warehouse management, and will bring ideas and practices that will improve our overall customer experience. Simon is a brilliant addition to the board of directors and will assist in delivering our ambition to be Europe’s number one online retailer," said Matthew Moulding, CEO of The Hut Group.

"The Hut Group has recently become the great success story in online retail and I am looking forward to joining the team and bringing my expertise. The next few weeks and months will see some dramatic improvements to The Group’s operations which will help take the company from GBP 25 million turnover to GBP 200 million in the next year. I am hugely excited by the opportunity to work with the most experienced team in UK online retail," Parker himself added.

The Cheshire-based e-commerce company runs the online businesses of major retailers including Asda, Woolworths, Argos and WHSmith, and recently acquired high street brand Zavvi, which is now being run as an online-only retailer.
