HMV announces plans to offer games via download

HMV has announced plans to expand its new download service following the September 5 launch by offering consumers access to games and movies in the future.

The HMV Digital service, which is being set up in co-operation with Microsoft, will initially only offer Windows Media Audio files for download. However, the retailer says it will give consumers the opportunity to access other forms of entertainment once demand has been established.

HMV has earmarked UKP 10 million in capital expenditure and marketing for the venture. Part of this investment will go towards funding a new piece of 'jukebox' software being developed by Microsoft.

Consumers will be able to obtain the software from any of the 200+ HMV stores across the country or via the retailer's website.
