Handheld Learning Conference

Publisher Slitherine lending support to Handheld Learning Awards for Innovation, presented next month by TV's Johnny Ball.

Epsom, 29th September 2008

Slitherine is proud to announce it will be joining the Handheld Conference 2008 as a sponsor of the Handheld Learning Awards for Innovation. The Awards celebrate the work of innovators and innovations in the field of education that have used mobile and ubiquitous technologies to enable transformational improvements in learning. These innovators recognize the world in which young people now inhabit and the technology such as game consoles, mobile phones and web technologies that are embedded within their everyday life. Rather than being regarded as a distraction to learning they are now being embraced for rich, deep learning experiences in an out of the classroom.

Slitherine’s Marketing Director, Marco Minoli, said: “We are proud to be supporting the Handheld Learning Awards this year. We really are a great fit for the Conference as this ‘always on’ learning approach has been the backbone of our development and now publishing strategy. We do want our players to be involved in something that goes beyond the mere gaming experience and enriches their lives. We see games as a great ‘learning by stealth’ tool and we want this message to be passed across the industry”.

Slitherine will be exclusively presenting its upcoming project Battlefield Academy, jointly developed with the BBC at the Conference.

Graham Brown-Martin, Managing Director of Handheld Learning, also added: “Slitherine are a model example of a successful game publisher who have recognized the enormous potential of a market thirsty for inspiring, intelligent games that are highly entertaining but can also be used across the school curriculum in the hands of talented teachers”

The Award Party takes place at The Brewery, London EC1 on Monday 13th October from 19:00 where 10 awards will be presented in a ceremony compared by television celebrity Johnny Ball. Marco Minoli will present the awards for the Primary category (6-11 year olds).

The Handheld Learning Conference takes place at the same venue from 13th – 15th October with Minoli presenting in the, Nintendo sponsored, Game On! session on Tuesday 14th at 14:30.
