GX3 hits Kickstarter goal

GaymerX organizers raise money to bring revamped show back for a third year

GaymerX will return next year. Yesterday, a Kickstarter campaign to revive the show under the more inclusive moniker GX3: Everyone Games passed its $80,000 target. As of this writing, it has a little over $84,000 in pledges, with 55 hours left in the campaign.

"Our gratitude for supporters and backers of our third year knows no bounds," organizing outfit MidBoss wrote in an update, adding, "We really weren't sure if the demand was there but you showed us that we were way wrong."

Months before the second GaymerX show took place earlier this year, MidBoss' Matt Conn said it would be the last. The costs of running a convention in downtown San Francisco and difficulty attracting corporate sponsorship were cited as key reasons for the move. However, the GX3 campaign was launched last month with a handful of corporate commitments for funding and a plan to move the show to off-peak convention season to make it more affordable. A venue and dates have not been locked down, but GX3: Everyone Games is expected to run in San Francisco in November or December of 2015.

MidBoss is hoping to hit some stretch goals with the final hours of its Kickstarter campaign. If it can raise $90,000, it will put the panels from this year's GaymerX2 show up on YouTube for free. At $100,000, the group will organize GXdev, a weekend game jam for projects about issues that aren't normally discussed in games.
