Simpsons creator Matt Groening has revealed that he will appear in the forthcoming Electronic Arts game based on the hit TV show.

Groening last night appeared alongside executive producer Al Jean at a press event in London's Leicester Square to promote the new Simpsons movie.

When asked by our sister site Eurogamer.net to discuss the game, which is being developed in co-operation with EA, Groening revealed he has a key role to play.

"Well the video game is mainly written by great writers, Matt Selman and Matt Warburton - I mean, you can just tell. Great, right?" Groening said.

"They did a send-up of videogames. Itâs a videogame about videogames; and Iâm in the videogame. Iâm a boss that you have to fight at the end of the game.

"It was really fun recording a million ways of dying, going âUGGH, ARGGH, EUURGH!â," he added.

The new game, which so far is simply titled The Simpsons, is due out on consoles, PC and handhelds in the autumn. The Simpsons Movie will hit UK cinemas on July 26.
