Google Play reaches 700,000 apps

Google has announced that 700,000 apps are available for Android devices

Alongside the reveal of its new lineup of Nexus devices, Google told Bloomberg that 700,000 apps are available for Android on the Google Play store. This means Google is close to catching rival Apple, who announced the same number of apps on its App Store during its hardware refresh last week.

Google still has some issues with piracy, Android fragmentation, and developers being able to monetize on the Android platform with compared to iOS revenue. In a survey of 5,500 developers, research firm Appcelerator (via TechCrunch) found that developers remained most interested in building iOS apps than any other platform.
