GNGWC 2008

South American regional finals to be held this weekend in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

South American regional finals for Korean online game competition, GNGWC 2008, will be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on October 5.

GNGWC 2008 regional rounds have been finished in Europe, Southeast Asia, US and Korea. South American and Japanese rounds are coming soon. South American regional finals will take place in Sao Paulo, the capital of Brazil. Brazil is a rising market for online games since there has been a rapid expansion of Internet infrastructure recently.

GNGWC 2008 is sponsored by Korea SW Industry Promotion Agency (KIPA) and KT. It is intended to promote excellent Korean online games and help Korean online game companies to make inroads into Brazilian market.

This year’s GNGWC South American regional finals have three games: Shot Online (Onnet), Silk Road (JoyMax) and Atlantica. (Ndoors) Players who survive the regional rounds will make to the world finals that will take place in Korea.

Survivors will compete against other representatives from 6 different countries at G-Star, Kintex, Ilsan, Korea, on November 16.

Director Taek-min Kwon from KIPA which sponsors GNGWC 2008 said, “Recently there has been a diversification of export markets. It used to be leaning to Asian market but recently Russian, South American markets are increasingly accessible. I hope Korean online game companies would make their way to the Brazilian market through this year’s GNGWC South American regional rounds that is happening in South America for the first time ever.”

GNGWC is the international game contests for the purpose of globalization of Korean games, started in 2006.

In GNGWC 2007, 6 Korean games such as Silkroad Online, Lunia, BombNDash, WarRock, Navy Field, and Shot Online were introduced in 5 local areas including North America (LA), Europe (Germany), Southeast Asia (Vietnam), Japan and Korea.

KIPA has been using a Global Service Platform to support overseas marketing for Korean online games from 2004, and GNGWC will be promoted through this global service platform.
