Glu Mobile launches Chaos Engine

Classic 90s games re-made for mobile phones

Glu Mobile, a leading developer and publisher of mobile games and content, has announced the release of the Bitmap Brothers' Amiga and Megadrive retro classic, The Chaos Engine.

Gamers who enjoyed the 1993 hit now have a second chance to take on the hordes of enemies and destroy the Chaos Engine, while younger audiences will have the chance to experience the chaos and carnage for the first time on their mobile handsets.

The game places players in the battle-hardened shoes of a highly trained, elite mercenary group, charged with seeking out and destroying the Chaos Engine to prevent it transforming the very fabric of time. The mobile version allows a choice of two mercenaries and one of them will be computer controlled, providing covering fire and support through the many perilous levels.

Featuring 12 missions spanning three huge environments laden with traps, secrets and wave upon wave of fierce enemies, the mobile game offers a choice of six different characters, all with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. By progressing through the game, players will be given the opportunity to enhance and upgrade their character's abilities.

The title has been given top score by UK magazine, What Mobile, who stated: "If HG Wells were to make a mobile game, The Chaos Engine would be it."

The Bitmap Brothers, originally founded in 1987, were a small but highly talented development team who created numerous hit titles in the early to mid nineties. Their critically and commercially acclaimed software originally appeared on the Commodore Amiga, SEGA Megadrive and, later, Sony PlayStation. Multiple variations and re-makes of classic Bitmap Brothers games have appeared over the years, and the original, unique gameplay ideas maintain their appeal today.

Glu has also released a mobile version of another acclaimed Bitmap Brothers property, Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe. A futuristic and violent adaptation of American football, Speedball 2 features fast and furious sporting fun, as players kick, punch, charge, slam, shove and brawl their way to victory.
