GBA SP sales jump 150 per cent following UK price cut

Nintendo UK has announced that sales of the Game Boy Advance SP soared by over 150 per cent in the week following its recent price cut to UKP 69.99, with some retailers seeing sales jump by up to 400 per cent.

Nintendo UK has announced that sales of the Game Boy Advance SP soared by over 150 per cent in the week following its recent price cut to UKP 69.99, with some retailers seeing sales jump by up to 400 per cent.

Sales of software also benefited from the new price point, rising some 36 per cent across the entire range during the week - a great mid-autumn bump for the console which sets it up well for the Christmas market.

Both software and hardware sales are liable to jump again this Friday, however, with the arrival of the latest titles in the Pokemon franchise - Pokemon Fire Red and Pokemon Leaf Green - at UK retail.

Combined with the continued effect of the price cut - which was the first cut for the console since it launched in March 2003 - the launch of the Pokemon titles looks likely to give the GBA SP another record week.

"The UK installed base for the Game Boy Advance SP now totals over 1.2 million," according to Nintendo UK general manager David Yarnton. "Since we launched the Game Boy Advance SP in March 2003, the console has exceeded all expectations and continues to go from strength to strength. This recent price drop enables us to offer gamers everywhere the Game Boy Advance SP at its most affordable price ever."
