Leading US games retailer GameStop has opened its 5000th store, in Jackson, California.

Leading US games retailer GameStop has opened its 5000th store, in Jackson, California.

The retail giant is on track to open between 500 and 550 news stores in 2007, and has locations in 16 countries worldwide, as well as North America.

"With more customers being attracted to the videogame category, they will increasingly find a GameStop convenient to them," said Dan DeMatteo, vice chairman of GameStop.

"This landmark store opening underscores the strength of our business model and represents a spectacular effort on behalf of our 44,000 employees worldwide."
