GamesAid success

New charity completes first round of fundraising events.

The first events have now taken place and fundraising has begun for new charity GamesAid.

Relentless Software raised £6,267 by collecting donations at the Buzz! launch party and by organising a poker night in conjunction with the Develop conference in Brighton.

“We are delighted to be able to contribute to the early GamesAid efforts by taking collections at our launch party," commented Organiser and Trustee, Andrew Eades. "We also had a great first poker night which was a success – everyone had a great night, and we managed to raise a good sum for charity."

On 31st August, gaming website PS3 Attitude held a charity skydive. Staff from the site jumped out of a plane at 13,000 feet – attached to a Royal Marine – and have raised several hundred pounds so far, with more donations still coming in. Industry veteran Ian Livingstone has also kindly donated £500 from a speech he recently did for IBM.

The Eurogamer Expo 2008 - an upcoming consumer gaming event - has kindly offered all of the proceeds from ticket sales to GamesAid as well. With 1,500 tickets already sold, this will mean a minimum donation of £7,500 to the charity.

“We’re very happy to be able to support GamesAid with this donation," said Rupert Loman from Eurogamer. "The event should be a win-win – gamers will have a great time, and many people will benefit from GamesAid’s charitable efforts."

And to cap off a busy couple of months, there will be another industry poker event – sponsored by PKR – taking place during London Games Festival. For all the details please visit www.justgiving.com/gamesaidpoker

"We would like to thank all of you who have contributed, and raised money over the past few months, this has been a fantastic start, and we look forward to sharing more news with you on events and fundraising in the future," commented Sarah Seaby, Trustee.
