Games Convention Online cancelled

Leipzig event fails to establish economically viable footing

Leipzig's Games Convention Online, the trade show specialising in MMO, browser and mobile games, has been cancelled due to lack of income and support.

The event had been planned for 7-8 July, 2011 but organisers have today issued a statement revealing that the show will no longer take place.

"Despite your fantastic support over the last two years, we have been unable to put Games Online Convention on a firm financial footing," read a statement on the event's website.

"The ideas and topics we created together were innovative and we certainly had the right thoughts as far as the development prospects of online games were concerned.

"Unfortunately, in the end, the idea on its own did not suffice to organize to economically successful trade fair and congress. The Leipziger Messe will naturally continue to provide a platform for young innovative branches of industry, but this needs to be supported and developed by the majority of the industry concerned.

"We would like to thank everyone for their exceptional collaboration, loyalty and confidence."

The Leipzig event had run for two years.
