GAME plans massive Christmas recruitment drive

Leading UK games retail chain GAME is set to recruit over 2000 temporary staff to cope with demand over the Christmas season, representing an increase of some 50 per cent in its workforce.

GAME, which operates some 340 stores in the UK and Ireland, anticipates this being the biggest Christmas ever for the UK games marketplace, with sales overtaking music sales for the first time ever.

The company cites the price war between the three major consoles, as well as the launch of blockbuster titles from franchises such as Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Medal of Honour, FIFA, Championship Manager and The Sims (a list which indicates just how much EA will dominate this Christmas' sales) as the key reasons behind its decision to increase staffing so drastically.

"We serve a huge number of people at Christmas who are buying games as presents, but know little about the products," explained GAME operations director Alan Kilby. "With 5 totally different formats and over 3,000 titles available, we totally understand how customers need a lot of help and advice when shopping for games. So we're looking for enthusiastic staff who can give customers good information and service when looking for presents this Christmas."
