Game in Scotland

Dundee recruitment event to bring talent to the country.

Game in Scotland which attracts hundreds of budding developers to Scotland from throughout the UK, takes place on Saturday 26 March in Dundee.

The free-to-attend event, now in its fifth year, encourages games graduates and aspiring developers to meet with Scotland’s top talent in the sector and will match skills with vacancies to help promote economic growth within the industry.

The Scottish games sector has received a recent welcome boost with news that American games firm Reloaded Productions is to open a studio in Scotland, while Outplay Entertainment announced last month that it will employ up to 150 skilled staff at its new base in Dundee.

The event offers anyone interested in working within the growing games sector the opportunity to meet with representatives from top games development studios and learn directly about the variety of job opportunities available within the industry, from games design, animation and programming to testing and quality assurance.

Mobile games developer, One Thumb Mobile, recruited five staff as a result of attending the event last year. Richard Hasinski, Managing Director, comments: “This was an excellent event to find motivated and enthusiastic new team members, who are now helping to create Celtic Heroes, an ambitious and groundbreaking new massively multiplayer game on iPhone and iPad”.

As the only recruitment fair of its kind, attendees have the rare opportunity to come face to face with some of the top names in the Scottish games industry and gain valuable advice, insight and knowledge from a variety of different leading companies.

Home to award winning development studios and world leading academic games courses, Dundee is seen by many in the games industry as a key recruiting ground. Over half of Scotland’s games development studios are based in Dundee making the city the prime location for a Scotland-wide event.

Funded by Interactive Tayside, the event has been set up to address the recruitment issues pertinent to the growth of the Scottish games industry. The half-day event consists of a series of exhibition stands, informal company presentations, panel sessions and the chance to meet representatives from games companies across Scotland including console, mobile and interactive TV development studios.

Games companies attending include Denki, Outplay Entertainment, Whisky Biscuit, Hubdub, 1000 Fraggers, Veemee, TAG Games, Proper Games, One Thumb Mobile, Eastern Front, Codeplay, Dynamo Games and Digital Goldfish .

Scotland is home to some of the world’s most successful games development studios creating global selling titles, notably smash hits the Grand Theft Auto franchises, State of Emergency, Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup, Lemmings, Denki Blocks, Championship Manager and the multi-award winning Crackdown for XBox360.

The event which takes place at 12 noon on Saturday 26 March at Dundee’s Fat Sams nightclub, is free to attend but registering in advance is essential as capacity is limited and places are awarded on a first come first serve basis. Visit www.gameinscotland.com for more information and to register.
