GAME GOLFERS RAISE A WEDGE FOR ESC

The ESC Golf Day goes with a swing

Friday 17th June 2005/...The computer and videogames industry charity raised over £11,000 from its first ever golf day. The British weather was also in a charitable mood as the Entertainment Software Charity (ESC) played host to the industry's golfers at the London Golf Club near Sevenoaks in Kent.

Organised by Midway Games, the charity event welcomed 13 four-man teams from across the industry all playing for the honours. Companies taking part included EA, THQ, NCsoft, Atari, Sega and Centresoft. The winning team overall came from Zoo Digital.

Captain of the Zoo Digital team Ian Stewart said, "We had a fantastic day and thanks go to all the organisers. The London Club were perfect hosts, the course was in great condition and the weather couldn't have been better. To top it all a total of about £11,000 was raised for the ESC. It was a great day all round."

Prizes were awarded by charity CEO Mark Strachan and organiser and ex-Midway Europe boss Tony Adams.

Mark Strachan said "As this was the ESC's inaugural Golf Day we're incredibly pleased that it went so well and we hope that this will now become an annual fixture on the industry calendar. I would like to say a big thank you to all of our sponsors who made the day possible. These include Miller Advertising, Sega, THQ, NCsoft, Midway and MCV."

About the esc:

Founded in 2000, the entertainment software charity was created to use the popularity of gaming to help give back to those less fortunate. The not-for-profit charity was established by prominent members of the gaming community to create a dedicated initiative programme to advance young people through play, training and education.

The entertainment software charity works with hardware vendors, developers, software publishers, magazine publishers, retailers, distributors and logistics providers, all of whom give their time, input, resources and intellectual properties to help support charities committed to improving the future of young people. The charity is also committed to providing funding for individual schools across the UK in association with the Government's Specialist Schools and Academies initiatives and has pledged £1.5m to build a new Academy in Paddington, London.
