Game Devs of Color Expo 2022 grant award winners announced

This year's recipients included game developers of dating sims, visual novels, and roguelikes

On the final day of the 2022 Game Devs of Color Expo, the event revealed its grant award winners.

The expo began securing and offering marginalized developers funds in 2019.

In speaking with GamesIndustry.biz Game Devs of Color Expo co-organizer, Catt Small, explained that the event has helped the industry shift to more no-strings-attached grants for creators from overlooked communities.

The recipients will receive a monetary fund ranging from $15,000 and $25,000. The grant winners are listed below.

Games Devs of Color Expo 2022 Grant Award Winners:

Geneva Heyward, the lead developer of Skate and Date. Skate and Date is a roller derby rhythm dating sim game. Its release schedule is currently unknown.

Tristan Barona, the creator of Kindfolx, which is a realtime deck builder roguelike title. Their studio, Taco Pizza Cat Games, is aiming to release the game in January 2023 on Steam.

Split Fate Studios, the development duo behind High Elo Girls, an esports inspired visual novel. The studio is planning to launch the coming-of-age title during Spring 2023.

Achimostawinan Games, developer of Indigenous detective title Hill Agency: PURITYdecay. The narrative driven whodunit is on pace for a fall 2022 release schedule.
