The GAME Group is backing Game Domain International's ambitious new PC download venture, as it uses the on-demand service to offer titles via the retailer's website.

In return, GAME will support GDI's A World of My Own virtual networking space, offering retail and marketing services.

Games Domain International claims its technology allows users to play games within minutes of initiating downloads, with the company recently announcing a beta test ahead of the launch later this year.

"As a specialist multi-channel retailer, we are committed to exploring new ways to deliver products to customer using all methods possible," said Alex Croft, MD of GAME.

"We are very interested in the technology and services that GDI has developed, and believe that it could bring real benefits to our customers."

A World of My Own hopes to create a virtual space allowing users to socialise and play games together, with access to multiple blockbuster PC games.

"Our superior technology combined with GAME's excellent retail expertise is a major advance for the games industry," offered Roger Walkden, CEO of GDI.

"This partnership comes at a very important time for both GDI and the games industry as it evolves."
