Korean MMO developer Webzen has announced that former Sony Online Entertainment executive Cindy Armstrong is to join its North American office in the role of CEO.

Webzen's US subsidiary, which is based in Los Angeles, is dedicated to introducing Western audiences to titles such as MU Online - one of Asia's most popular massively multiplayer online games. Forthcoming Webzen titles include PC and Xbox 360 title Huxley, and MMORPG Endless Saga - due to arrive on PC and PS3 next year.

Armstrong was previously vice president of business development at SOE, where she was responsible for exporting the publisher's product line to foreign markets with a particular focus on Asia. She has also worked for Nintendo, Boss and Activision.

"Ms. Armstrong has the perfect pedigree to lead Webzen America and firmly establish the company in this critical territory," said CEO NamJu Kim.

"Her industry knowledge, business development expertise and international expansion experience make her tremendously qualified to help Webzen meet its goal of becoming a leading online game company in all major markets worldwide."

Armstrong added: "Joining as Webzen is on the verge of becoming a powerhouse online games company in this market is an exciting and incredible opportunity. The suite of online games Webzen has slated for the US is truly unmatched by any other publisher."
