Leading UK consumer videogames website Eurogamer.net has announced the launch of a new high quality streaming video service, Eurogamer TV, signalling the site's ambitions in the burgeoning video content space.

The service, which can be access through a dedicated portal at www.eurogamer.tv, uses the company's new Flash-based video streaming technology to deliver high quality video to users without the need for them to install any custom software or plug-ins.

Initially, it will be used to serve game trailers and footage, but Eurogamer expects to begin producing original videogames-related content in the near future - and the company will announce the high-profile hiring of an editor to oversee video content shortly.

Eurogamer, which is also the publisher of this site and our sister trade site, MobileIndustry.biz, has made a significant investment in infrastructure to be able to serve millions of videos each month, after seeing huge demand for the Eurogamer TV service during its beta period over the past few months.

"The full launch of Eurogamer TV is the latest step in the rapid development of Eurogamer as a major online player," enthused Eurogamer Network director of operations Rupert Loman. "We're looking forward to kicking off original video content production and building a large audience for the Eurogamer TV site."

The Eurogamer.net consumer website became the first and only videogames site in the UK to be independently audited last October, when the site recorded almost a million monthly unique users and page impressions of almost 6.8 million according to figures from ABC ELECTRONIC.
