ESA Foundation raises $750,000

Annual Nite to Unite event also hands Miyamoto the ESA Champion Award

The ESA Foundation, the charitable arm of the videogame publishers' organisation, has announced that its annual fundraiser gala for children's charities, Nite to Unite, has raised USD 750,000 this year.

The proceeds from the sold-out black-tie dinner and auction will be donated by the ESA Foundation to a variety of children's organisations.

The event also awarded the 2009 ESA Champion Award to Shigeru Miyamoto, who joins previous recipients such as George Lucas, Ken Kutaragi, and GameStop's Dan DeMatteo.

"The video game industry's commitment to giving back is stronger than ever," said ESA president and CEO Michael Gallagher.

"For ten years now, Nite to Unite has been the premiere industry event dedicated to children's causes and honouring its creative visionaries. I'm honoured that so many distinguished individuals and organisations attended."
