The British Academy is inviting entries for this year's videogame BAFTA Awards, taking place October 23.

The prestigious awards have been streamlined for 2007 and now feature 13 categories, as well as the first Fellowship award - the highest accolade for an individual recognising outstanding achievement and contribution to the industry.

"The two new consoles, plus the continued growth in technology and homes connected to broadband have fuelled a further growth in games sales," said Paul Jackson, chair of the BAFTA videogames committee.

"The market has never been as innovative or dynamic."

The categories are: Action and Adventure, Strategy & Simulation, Sports, Multiplayer, Casual, Use of Audio, Original Score, Technical Achievement, Artistic Achievement, Gameplay, Innovation, Story and Character and Best Game.

Entry forms and information on how to become a voter are available from the BAFTA website.
