ELSPA Launches Media Conference

Games Industry To Examine Relationship With Mass Media

Tuesday 26 October 2004/... ELSPA (The Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association) today announced a conference designed to investigate how computer and video games can raise their profile and increase understanding with the mass media. Their conference will also feature key representatives from the BBC and Channel 4 and will look at ways that the games industry can establish clear ties, synergies and co-operative initiatives.

Examining why this huge entertainment industry is almost silent in the mass media, the conference - Media Meets Gaming - which will take place on Monday 22nd November, will bring together key industry figures including Gerhard Florin, MD Europe of Electronic Arts, and Ian Livingstone, Creative director of Eidos, Mike Morris from Channel 4 and Liz Loxam from the BBC to discuss their views and experiences of building the profile of gaming in the media.

The all-day conference features a discussion panel in the afternoon for those delegates who would like to participate in the main discussion. The panel will be hosted by Stuart Dinsey, MD of Intent Media, publisher of games industry trade paper MCV, and will also include representatives from Microsoft, BBC, Conde Nast, Gamer TV and Naked Communications.

Roger Bennett, director general of ELSPA, said: "ELSPA believes that this will be a valuable exercise in discovering further how interest and mutual beneficial co-operation can be developed and exploited between the media and the games industry. We believe that anyone from PR and Marketing executives, including brand management and their agents as well as those working in the editorial side of media companies will benefit hugely from this conference. It is time that the mass market games industry becomes better understood, exposed and exploited as an important and valuable economic, cultural and commercial factor - it is most definitely time for change."

The Conference takes place at the Marquee Club, Leicester Square, from 9.00am on Monday 22nd November and includes a networking event in the evening. For further information and booking enquiries please contact Craig Parker-Wood at ELSPA on 0207 534 0580
