ELSPA and EA team up to explain game ratings

A new consumer initiative from publisher trade body ELSPA, supported by leading publisher EA, will see a leaflet explaining the new game rating systems being widely distributed at UK retail outlets in the run-up to Christmas.

The leaflet will explain exactly how to read the age rating and content description symbols, which form part of the new PEGI rating system for videogames introduced earlier this year.

"With the introduction of the PEGI system earlier this year and the many new consumers who will be buying games for Christmas presents, we felt the time was right to introduce an explanatory leaflet," according to ELSPA director general Roger Bennett.

Electronic Arts, which sponsored the initiative, is also assisting in its distribution, packing copies of the leaflet with FIFA Football 2004, which was released last Friday. Retailers interested in acquiring copies should contact Pinnacle Distribution for more information.
