EA withdraws Tiger Woods PS2 title from retail

Publisher Electronic Arts has recalled copies of the English language version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 from European retailers, following reports of a "performance issue" with the PS2 version of the popular game.

The game is expected to return to shelves within the next three weeks, and owners of the title who have found themselves affected by the bug will be able to exchange their copies for newly issued ones at that point - or demand a full refund in the interim, thanks to arrangements made with retailers by EA.

The problem with the game is thought to affect only small numbers of players, and applies only to the English language European (PAL) version of the title. The Xbox, GameCube and PC versions of the game are unaffected and will remain on sale.

"EA has detected a performance issue on copies of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005," the company said in a statement today. "This impacts PlayStation2 copies only, and primarily those sold to consumers in the United Kingdom. EA has identified the problem and is issuing corrected copies to retailers and consumers to guarantee that all players are able to play the game as it was intended. Even the pros hit one into the rough now and again. We expect to have impacted players back on the green with a new game shortly."

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 was launched last Friday, and came in at number four in the UK chart this week - with the game selling more than twice as many copies in its debut week as last year's iteration of the series did.
