EA unveils next Burnout sequel; September release planned

Electronic Arts has revealed that the next instalment in the highly successful Burnout series will be on show at this year's E3, with a release on PS2 and Xbox to follow in September.

Burnout Revenge is based around the idea of commuter rage, and "lets gamers rip through rush hour traffic to lay waste to scores of rubbernecking roadhogs in an over-the-top scene of vehicular mayhem."

It's being developed by Criterion Games, also responsible for last year's Burnout 3: Takedown, which won three BAFTAs - including Best Racing and Best PS2 Game - and was also crowned Best PS2 game at the 2004 Golden Joystick Awards.

Burnout Revenge will feature new "tricked out" race, crash and road rage modes. There's also a brand new revenge mode, where gamers are challenged to race against the clock and take their frustrations out on rush hour traffic.
