EA shuts down Battlefield, Army Of Two servers

Older titles lose their online support in August

EA has announced it is shutting down the online servers for 12 games and demos, including Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, Army Of Two and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, on August 11.

Madden NFL 10 and NHL 10's online servers will also close, on the later date of October 1.

"The decisions to retire old games are never easy," read the official EA statement.

"As games get replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the older games dwindles beyond a point – fewer than 1 per cent of all peak online players across all EA titles – where it's feasible to continue behind the scenes work involved with keeping these games up and running."
