EA partners with Petroglyph Games for Command & Conquer remasters
Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert to be remastered with original developers, no microtransactions
Today, EA has announced it will partner with Petroglyph Games to remaster Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, and three classic expansion packs: Covert Ops, Counterstrike, and Aftermath.
In a Reddit post from EA producer Jim Vessella, he said that Red Alert and its three expansions would be bundled as one remastered collection, though the team has not yet begun development on either Tiberian Dawn or Red Alert yet. He also said the games would not include any microtransactions - a particular sticking point for fans at the announcement of upcoming free-to-play mobile release Command & Conquer Rivals.
The partnership with Petroglyph was prompted by the fact that it is now home to a number of the Command & Conquer series' original developers from Westwood Studios, including Joe Bostic, Steve Tall, Ted Morris, and Mike Legg.
In addition, Lemon Sky Studios will assist in bringing the games to 4K.
"On a personal note, I can tell you the past few weeks have been surreal," said Vessella. "During my first visit to Petroglyph, I was able to brainstorm "C&C feel" with Joe, reminisce about the jukebox with Mike, and gab with Steve about whether we should fix the Tib Dawn Harvester AI. Getting to chat C&C with the original developers has been one of the highlights of my gamer journey, and I can't wait for all the incredible conversations to come."
