Publisher Electronic Arts has confirmed that it plans to support Sony's PlayStation Portable with two titles at launch, with Need for Speed Underground Rivals and Tiger Woods PGA Golf to arrive in Japan this year.

The two titles, developed at EA Canada, will be joined at the North American launch next year by four more games - NBA Street, NFL Street, and two further unannounced titles.

Both Tiger Woods and NFSU will take advantage of the Wi-Fi capabilities of the PSP, offering head to head wireless multiplayer to players, while the company claims that both games have been redesigned to take advantage of the other features of the handheld.

EA has a dedicated team, called Team Fusion, at its Canadian studio which is focused on creating titles for the PSP platform. "The launch of the PlayStation 2 taught us that it is essential to deliver first rate games from day one," according to team director Warren Wall. "We've assembled Team Fusion to do just that."

"Our PSP games will be tailored to the new system in every way - graphics, gameplay and sound," he continued. "We plan to kick off the PSP launch with a bang!"
