Number of movie studios bidding for movie rights to the publisher's take on the classic poem

Electronic Arts is set announce work on an upcoming title based upon Dante's Inferno.

The news that the publishing giant was at work on a videogame adaptation of the first part of the Divine Comedy came to light after rumours surfaced that a number of movie studios were in a bidding war for the film rights to the title, as reported by Variety.

Paramount, Universal, MGM and New Regency are the companies said to be interested in the project that would join movie adaptations of Army of Two and The Sims.

EA recently reported that it would cut 600 staff members as part of USD 50 million cost reduction plan.
