Dundee College sign-up

App Jam host joins TIGA.

TIGA today announced Dundee College as its latest new member. As one of Scotland's leading colleges, Dundee College offers a range of courses suited to students looking to enter the games industry. Courses include Computing Software Development (HNC), 3D Modeling and Animation (HNC) and Computer Games Development (HNC).

Dundee College is embedded in the local Dundee games community, last year hosting and organising ‘App Con’, a app development conference and ‘App Jam’, a 48 hour development competition to find the best new apps, new ideas and new designers.

Course leader and ‘App Jam’ organiser Andrew Mackenzie stated:

“Dundee has a rich tradition in games development and we are proud to be part of the local games community. Our courses are designed to help students enter the games industry directly or go on to further studies. Our teaching is enthusiastic and industry focused. We offer a range of dedicated courses and also promote flexible learning to allow busy people to fit study into their lives.”

“ Dundee College joined TIGA to strengthen our links with games developers throughout the UK and also to network with TIGA’s other education members. At Dundee College we are committed to making games education in the UK first class and would like to work with TIGA members wherever possible to further this commitment.”

Dr. Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO stated: “ Dundee College is a fantastic example of a UK college dedicated to teaching through practical hands on learning. Last year’s App Jam and Conference proved that when academia and industry combine forces, they do so with great success. We look forward to working with Dundee College and welcome the organisation to TIGA.”

About TIGA:

TIGA is the trade association representing the UK’s games industry. The majority of our members are either independent games developers or in-house publisher owned developers. We also have games publishers, outsourcing companies, technology businesses and universities amongst our membership. TIGA has also been named as a finalist in the 2010 Chartered Management Institute (CMI) National Management and Leadership Awards in the category of ‘The Outstanding Organisation of the Year Award (SME)’. TIGA is an ‘Investors in People’ accredited organisation.

TIGA's vision is to make the UK the best place in the world to do games business.  We focus on three sets of activities: political representation, generating media coverage and developing services that enhance the competitiveness of our members.  This means that TIGA members are effectively represented in the corridors of power, their voice is heard in the media and they receive benefits that make a material difference to their businesses, including a reduction in costs and improved commercial opportunities.
