dSonic Shows Off What It Takes to Sound Like a Winner – Mage Knight Creature Audio Showcase Part Three

October 9, 2006

dSonic is excited to showcase why Mage Knight: Apocalypse sounds like a winner with the last of six creature audio QuickTime installments. dSonic, an audio company for the games industry, whose recent credits include creature sound work on Oblivion IV: Elder Scrolls and ambient soundscapes for Might and Magic: Dark Messiah, were responsible for the entire audio roster of Mage Knight: Apocalypse. Mage Knight: Apocalypse, in stores this month, is an action role-playing game that allows fans to take on the role of one of five characters. The player must band together with other legendary heroes to face The Apocalypse Dragon and defeat the forces of Chaos.

The characters and environments comprise a grand total of over 850 MB of sounds (the most dSonic has ever done for a single title) that were implemented into the game using the latest realtime mixing techniques. The characters and environments come to life with over 40-60 unique sounds per creature for the most diverse world possible.

Our last two showcases consist of some awesome creatures: "" features the "Steam Mauler." dSonic used tire squeals cross-processed with a steam engine to give the character a vicious, yet mechanical vocal quality. They did this to get the sound of a robot that might exsist in a medieval world, and not something that sounds overly "synthy" and futuristic.

The second showcase hightlighted in the "" features the "Frost Minion." dSonic had to create a set of sounds that would reflect the sound a creature who was made out of ice would make. Staying away from animal sounds, they went for musical instruments such as screeching violins and asian flutes for their raw material. Once fans get in the game and hear the frost minion skating around with his ice sword wizzing through the air they'll want to reach for a powerful weapon.
