The Nintendo DS has shown terrific performance in the Japanese market, with every top ten title in the all formats charts exclusive to the system.

Square Enixâs remake of Final Fantasy III debuts in the number one spot, shifting over 500,000 units in its first week of sales.

In contrast, the rest of the titles in the top ten have taken a dramatic drop in sales, with the number two game, New Super Mario Bros., selling just over 65,500 units.

The only other new entry in the top ten is Marvelousâ Rune Factory: Shin Bokujou Monogatari, a new role-playing title based in the popular Harvest Moon series - which has sold over 42,000 units.

Hardware sales in the market have remained quiet during the period, but again Nintendoâs DS has proven the strongest performer with 163,684 consoles sold.

The PSP has shifted 29,945 units while Sonyâs PlayStation 2 registered 21,829 units sold.

Nintendoâs Game Boy Advance and GameCube consoles sold 4552 and 837 units respectively, while Microsoftâs Xbox 360 has registered only 1197 units for the weekly period.
