DragonFable

Dev team takes novel approach to finishing game.

LAND O’LAKES, FLORIDA – January 14, 2011 – Artix Entertainment, an indie game development studio that runs download-free browser-based RPGS, regularly incorporates new and unexpected ideas in their games.  But when the lead animator of DragonFable had to take unplanned time off to recover from pneumonia, the team was left without a way to make the cutscenes for their Christmas event finale. With the entire team scattered across the United States to visit family for the holidays, they had to pull together to create something practical and manageable while upholding DragonFable’s wow-factor. Despite limited resources, the game’s team lead went back to the basics, pulled out her crayons, and drew the cutscenes by hand!

For an event featuring plushie versions of the game’s biggest heroes and villains as monsters, the child-inspired approach was not only a creative solution to a very adult-sized problem but amplified the sense of  fun and zaniness in this kid-friendly single-player RPG.

The Christmas event in DragonFable has ended, but players of all ages can look forward to more holiday extravaganzas coming up this year, including Hero’s Heart Day (a valentine event), the Lucky Day event (inspired by St. Patrick’s Day), and a Friday the 13 th war that will fill DragonFable heroes with a lot more than just bad luck.
