Double win for Valve at 2020 VR Awards

Index headset won best hardware, while Half-Life: Alyx was crowned Game of the Year

Valve was the big winner when it came to the games industry at this year's VR Awards.

Hosted tonight, the annual event celebrates the biggest achievements in virtual reality across a wide range of categories, from video games and film to education, training and healthcare.

There were two categories of note to games companies, and Valve took the prize in both of them.

The company was awarded Hardware of the Year for its Index headset, the first VR device developed and manufactured in-house.

Meanwhile, the acclaimed Half-Life: Alyx was honoured as Game of the Year, fending off competition from Skydance Interactive's The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, nDreams' Phantom: Covert Ops and Sanzaru Games' Asgard's Wrath.

The awards ceremony was held tonight, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was streamed online.

It was also available to experience as a fully immersive VR awards ceremony -- a world first, according to the organisers.
