Doak to deliver GoldenEye Director's Commentary at GameCity

To support launch of UKs National Videogame Archive

David Doak and Martin Hollis, two members of the Rare team behind N64 classic GoldenEye, are to deliver a retrospective of the title at this year's GameCity event.

GoldenEye: The Director's Commentary will offer a unique look at the game – considered by many to be one of the finest games of its generation – with Doak and Hollis answering questions and sharing behind-the-scenes information on the game.

The session is in conjunction with the launch of the UKs first official National Videogames Archive, to be housed at the National Media Museum and researched with Nottingham Trent University.

The archive will host consoles, software and other items from the games industry, as well as document advertising, media, artwork and the communities that sustain videogames.

"The National Videogame Archive is an important resource for preserving elements of our national cultural heritage," offered Dr James Newman from Nottingham Trent University's Centre of Contemporary Play.

"We don’t just want to create a virtual museum full of code or screenshots that you could see online," he continued. "The archive will really get to grips with what is a very creative, social and productive culture. It will not only be a vital academic resource to support growing disciplines in videogame studies but will also be something that the general public can fully engage with."

The archive will officially be launched at GameCity in Nottingham later this month, October 30 – November 1.
