Digital Environment Painting

New training DVD features Assassin's Creed artist Raphael Lacoste.

HOLLYWOOD, CA - Nov. 3, 2010 - The Gnomon Workshop, the leader in professional training for artists in entertainment and design, has announced a new digital environment painting training DVD taught by artist Raphael Lacoste, who has contributed to games including Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia. Titled "Digital Environment Painting," this new tutorial taps Lacoste's extensive technical expertise and multi-media experience for creating photorealistic environments using a variety of tools. The techniques demonstrated in this title lead to the creation of a rich and interesting digital environment ready for a production illustration or matte painting.

The latest training DVD release from The Gnomon Workshop demonstrates the combined techniques required to create top-notch digital illustrations and matte paintings. Using Autodesk 3DS Max and Adobe Photoshop, Lacoste integrates photographs, textured 3D geometry and freehand painting techniques to demonstrate how to take a piece from a rough concept sketch to a highly polished final image. The various techniques featured in the DVD are beneficial for Concept Artists, Matte Painters, Digital Illustrators and anyone looking to improve their digital painting skills.

Prior to his current position as a Senior Arts Director at Electronic Arts Montreal, Raphael Lacoste served as an Art Director at Ubisoft, where he worked on critically acclaimed videogames like Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia. In 2006, Lacoste won a Visual Effects Society Award for his work on the "Two Thrones" cut scene from Prince of Persia. Wanting to challenge himself in the film industry as well as games, Lacoste quickly built an impressive resume while focusing on the silver screen. He has worked as a Matte Painter and Senior Concept Artist on blockbusters like "Terminator Salvation," "Journey to the Center of the Earth," "Death Race" and "Repo Men."

Launched as a means to share professional techniques with artists who cannot attend the hands-on courses offered at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects, the Gnomon Workshop has grown over the past ten years to offer extensive training DVDs by over ninety professional instructors.

"Digital Environment Painting" is available for digital download and is also featured in Gnomon Workshop's training subscription plans which can be found at: www.thegnomonworkshop.com.
