DC Studios picks up State of Emergency 2

Scottish developer DC Studios has signed an agreement with the administrators of VIS Entertainment to acquire the rights to State of Emergency 2, the sequel to Rockstar's 2002 street brawler.

The agreement will see DC completing the current game, and gives the company the right to arrange a publishing deal for the game and for any sequels that might follow.

"State of Emergency 2 is an excellent addition to the company's line-up and we look forward to it being a huge success and to the continuation of the brand in the future," said DC Studios CEO Mark Greenshields.

"We are also delighted to be supporting games development within Scotland and are continuing to expand our operations there."

SOE2 is set ten years after the original game, and promises more modes, an entirely new game engine and a huge arsenal of weapons. Players will also be able to drive vehicles and there are improved crowd dynamics, with more enemies on screen at the same time. In addition, the storyline is said to be much more involving than that of the previous game.

State of Emergency 2 is slated for a release late this year on PS2, with versions for other unspecified platforms to follow. DC Studios plans to show an in-development build of the game at E3 this month, and anyone interested in the title should contact the studio at soe2@dc-studios.com.
