Dare to be Digital televised in C4 documentary

Three-part Crunchtime series to air on British TV in April

Long-running student development contest Dare to be Digital is to be featured in a new three-part Channel 4 documentary in the UK.

Called Crunchtime, the show is being produced by Headlight Pictures and follows 15 international teams as they compete in the University of Abertay's challenge to create a working video game within just 10 weeks.

The first part of the documentary is due to air on Sunday, March 27 at 7:25am GMT and shows teams from as far afield as China, Sweden, India and the US acclimatising to the Scottish environment and beginning their projects.

The second episode will air on Sunday, April 3 and focuses in part on the lack of female entrants. The third and final documentary is due to air on Sunday, April 10 and ends with the three best projects being nominated for Bafta One To Watch awards.

"Crunchtime is a fabulous opportunity to open up the excitement and passion within creative teams making games for a wider audience," said Paul Durrant of Abertay University.

"Abertay University has pioneered the provision of real world work opportunities for students and graduates, and Dare to be Digital has been our way of providing that opportunity and allowing all comers to compete at an international level and showcase their talent," he added.

"Crunchtime is not only a fantastic series showcase for Dare To Be Digital; it also highlights the world class digital sector of Dundee, a sector that Channel 4 has engaged with on a number of exciting creative digital projects over the last 12 months," commented Channel 4 media project manager Ian MacKenzie.
