Coffee Stain invests in Kavalri

Goat Simulator publisher puts money into Equestrian the Game developer as part of initiative to address industry's gender imbalance

Coffee Stain is broadening its portfolio of animal-related interests. The Goat Simulator developer and publisher today announced that it has invested in Kavalri, the Stockholm-based studio working on the mobile title Equestrian The Game.

The investment is being made as part of Coffee Stain's Levelling the Playing Field initiative, which aims to address the industry's gender imbalance by creating opportunities for small studios where at least half the staff are women. Kavalri is the second studio to receive investment under the program; the first was Other Tales Interactive, the two-woman team behind this year's mobile, PC, and Switch game Tick Tock: A Tale for Two.

"We identified our culture and core values very early on in Kavalri's creation," said Kavalri co-founder and VP Molly Ericson. "One of our mantras includes focusing on diversity in people, not in vision. Diversity in people's background, ethnicity, gender, and personality is important while making sure there's alignment in vision and mission. Being part of Levelling the Playing Field is a fantastic opportunity. It's a great initiative combined with the expertise and support of Coffee Stain."

Coffee Stain joins a number of partners supporting Kavalri, including Stockholm-based Sting start-up accelerator/incubator and Goodbye Kansas Game Invest.
