CODEMASTERS ANNOUNCES MAELSTROM MULTIPLAYER DEMO AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD

Burbank, CA - Friday, March 16, 2007 - Gamers can now experience a taste of the destructive action and strategy of Maelstrom as Codemasters today announced that the PC multiplayer demo is available for download at: www.codemasters.com/maelstrom. ; With organic bases, terraforming and totally destructible environments, the demo enables players to sample two new multiplayer maps; also playable in single-player mode. An original RTS from developer KDV Games, Maelstrom was released toward the end of 2006 for the PC, and carries a "T" (Teen - Alcohol Reference, Blood and Gore, Mile Language and Violence - content suitable for persons ages 13 and older) rating by the ESRB.

The first two-player map, named Top of the Hill allows players command either the resourceful Remnants or the fearless Hai-Genti alien force in a race to destroy the opposing enemy base. The first to reach the summit will gain control of the water pump at the top of the hill, so strategic terraforming and dam building will be crucial for the Remnants to save their base from possible flooding by the aquatic aliens.

The second four-player map, titled Lair of the Devil, enables players to again compete as either the human, guerrilla-fighting Remnants or the collective hive-mind of the Hai-Genti aliens. This map is a barren and volcanic vision of the future, and is one of the 14 multiplayer maps available in the full game.

ABOUT MAELSTROM

In the space of fifty years, Earth changed from a planet on cusp of a challenging future to a world a breath away from lifelessness and plunged into an apocalyptic time of ecological disaster, global warfare and the meltdown of human civilization. This is the time of the Maelstrom . In this ravaged world, the planet's dwindling resources have divided what remains of mankind in two: the urban freedom fighting 'Remnants' and the technologically advanced 'Ascension'. Now they must wage war against a new threat, the invasion of a savage alien race, the Hai-Genti, and each other in a desperate struggle for supremacy and survival. Through the game's missions, take command from different viewpoints and employ faction-specific tactics and weaponry to achieve your objectives. Complete with the ability to terraform landscapes and transform units, Maelstrom provides gamers with the power to harness the forces of nature in the most frantic, destructive, action-packed RTS game yet.
