Cloud-based music/video service for EU Sony devices

Qriocity confirmed for PS3 later this year, requires paid subscription

Sony has confirmed that Qriocity, a new cloud-based, subscription model music and video streaming service, will be launching on a several hardware devices later this year in Europe.

Video on demand via Qriocity has been available in the US since April, but this year will see the launch of new music streaming service Music Unlimited.

The service has been announced for PS3s, Bravia televisions, Blu-ray systems and VAIO computers at launch, but will be coming to more Sony hardware in future.

Launch territories will be France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK.

"We are excited to offer our customers high quality, cloud-based entertainment experiences across many of Sony's network-enabled devices," said Sony president Kazuo Hirai.

"Services 'powered by Qriocity' will revolutionize the way that users play, listen, watch, share, communicate, learn, discover and create their digital entertainment content."

Pricing models for the service have yet to be announced.
