Climax sign-up

Another developer joins TIGA.

30 November, 2009

TIGA, the trade association representing the UK games industry, today announced that Climax has rejoined TIGA.

Simon Gardner, CEO, Climax stated: “As one of the UK's longest established independent developers Climax has always been interested in being part of the developer community. We have spent the last few years focusing on restructuring the company, implementing new processes and making quality our primary aim. With these goals now in hand, we feel we have time to look outside of our studio and add our voice to the wider industry and help in any way we can to keep the UK at the forefront of games development.”

“We support TIGA’s efforts to make sure we have a level financial playing field when competing with developers in other countries. We also feel that education is crucially important - with special consideration being given to the suitability of games courses and the calibre of applicants accepted on to them. Still, like many others, we find ourselves seeking out graduates with strong math and science qualifications (or demonstrable skills in the interview) and we need to encourage these people into our industry. We welcome TIGA’s work in fostering greater collaboration between academia and industry and look forward to becoming more involved in this.”

On working with TIGA Simon added: “As an independent developer we feel we can help contribute in communicating to government the issues a small business has in this highly creative and yet global industry. We can also explain the issues we face in both the micro and macro business cycles – with ever-changing technology, platforms and infrastructure. Whilst it is easy to draw parallels with the film industry, we face many more challenges, but we can also compete on a world stage, without geographical limitations. We also represent a very modern manufacturing industry, with few and possibly diminishing, physical goods, transportation costs and yet world wide exports. Something to be encouraged!”

Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO stated: “Climax brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to TIGA. The team at Climax also share our passion for making the UK the best place in the world to do games business. We look forward to working closely with them on areas such as education policy, fiscal policy and government lobbying.”
