Chikuwa Ninja

New iOS game by Hudson.

San Mateo, Calif. – Sept. 16, 2010 – Calling all ninjas! iPhone ® and iPod ® touch users interested in joining this ancient profession can now try their hand at Chikuwa Ninja, published by Hudson Entertainment, the North and South American subsidiary of HUDSON SOFT. Chikuwa Ninja offers fun point-and-flick action as players aim to hit as many dumbbells as they can using chikuwas, a traditional Japanese snack. The game is now available on the iTunes App Store at a sale price of $0.99 for the first 298,014 buyers; the regular price is $1.99.

Chikuwa Ninja follows the quirky story of a ninja whose work has dried up. He happens upon a job at a chikuwa factory, where the “help wanted” sign reads, “Preferential treatment if you are Ninja.” Players must help the underemployed ninja become good at his job at the assembly line, where he is tasked with turning regular dumbbells into chikuwa-dumbbells by throwing chikuwas at them. When a chikuwa hits a dumbbell successfully, the dumbbell handle turns into a chikuwa. If the chikuwa misses the target, the dumbbell is either destroyed or the chikuwa is dropped. The goal of the game is to see how many times in a row the player can hit a dumbbell.

There are three game modes offered in Chikuwa Ninja: Surreal Mode, Reality Mode and Eternity Mode. In Surreal Mode, the dumbbells are placed on a target stand in a stationary position. In Reality Mode, the dumbbells move in an assembly line factory; if the player misses a certain number of dumbbells, the game ends. Eternity Mode offers the same moving assembly line setting but with no penalties or time limits.

Chikuwa Ninja addictive action is available for $0.99 from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at http://dothehudson.net/en/app/chikuwa-ninja/catalog.html.
