Catherine tops Japanese chart on debut

Adult horror title sees off MVC 3, but PS3 sales unaffected

Atlus' Catherine, the first HD game from the team which made the Persona series, has taken the Japanese software number one on its week of release, with 2D fighter Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 taking second.

With Samurai Warriors 3Z in third, PlayStation 3 titles dominated the top three.

Catherine and MVC 3 both also charted unusually highly on Xbox 360, taking seventh and eighth places on the chart. Two Worlds II is the only other 360 SKU on the chart, taking 15th.

However, none of these games appears to be a system-seller, with PS3 and 360 sales remaining largely static. PSP is still the best selling console this week in Japan, selling 63,330, a drop from last week's 106,893.
