Microsoft's director of programming for Xbox Live, Larry Hryb - better known to gamers as Major Nelson - has revealed that Call of Duty 2 is the most popular choice for Xbox 360 owners playing online.

Hryb has published the latest Xbox Live charts on his blog, showing that Ghost Recon 3 is in second place, followed by hit RPG Oblivion and Battlefield 2: Modern Combat.

In fifth place it's Final Fantasy XI, with Project Gotham Racing 3 at No. 6. EA's Fight Night 3 is in seventh, followed by the only Xbox Live Arcade title in the chart - the next-gen version of classic card game Uno. Ninth place goes to Rare shooter Perfect Dark Zero, with Dead or Alive 4 in tenth.

As for the original Xbox, it seems that Halo 2 is still the most popular game on Live more than 18 months after its release. Battlefield 2: Modern Combat is in second place, followed by Counter-Strike, PES 5 and Splinter Cell Chaos.

The Madden series is still proving hugely popular in the US, with NFL 2006 is in at sixth place. Rainbow Six: Black Arrow is at seven, followed by Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and Forza Motorsport. Ghost Recon 2: Summit Strike is at No. 10.
