Buzz! Junior: Ace Racers

Buzzer-controlled racing from Scotland's Cohort Studios, on sale now.

Dundee, Scotland, November 18th, 2008. Cohort Studios, the Scottish game developer, today announced that the company's most recent project, Buzz! Junior: Ace Racers has been published by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited (“SCEE”) for the PlayStation®2.

Buzz! Junior: Ace Racers is the latest title in the hugely successful Buzz! Junior series of games. Aimed at a younger audience, the Buzz! Junior titles are designed to be played with the Buzz! Buzzers and are designed to be as fun, family-friendly and playable as possible.

Buzz! Junior: Ace Racers takes the fun and accessible nature of the Buzz! Junior series to a whole new level. The game gives players control of cars, buggies, planes, and boats across a wide range of environments. The controls couldn't be simpler. Press the Buzzer to accelerate, let go to slow down!

There are a number of challenges, mini games and races on offer, all based around racing, flying, driving, and boating. The game also includes a team mode, allowing gamers to play together, collaboratively.

Buzz! Junior: Ace Racers features over 30 different circuits, 16 different vehicles and land, sea, and air races.

Cohort Studios also developed an earlier game in the Buzz! Junior series. Buzz! Junior: Dino Den was published by SCEE in February 2008 and reached number 3 in the UK PlayStation®2 charts, as well as winning positive reviews from consumers across all of the major online retailers.

Lol Scragg, CEO of Cohort Studios, said, “We're very pleased to have Buzz! Junior: Ace Racers, the latest Buzz! Junior game released. Our previous title in the series, Buzz! Junior: Dino Den, was very well received and generated a lot of positive feedback, from the media and games press, as well as from consumers themselves. We learned a great deal developing that title and used that experience to design something quite new for SCEE in Buzz! Junior: Ace Racers. It takes the essence of racing games and the feeling of toy cars and puts them into an interactive form which is again proving very popular with kids and adults alike.”

Buzz! Junior: Ace Racers is now available from all major high street and online retailers.

In addition, the company has also provided outsourced development expertise for the hugely popular Burnout franchise, published by Electronic Arts.

Cohort has also worked extensively outside the mainstream/console games market, providing resources for an interactive advertising campaign for the Audi TT. The company is also providing online development and consulting for a well-known global sports organisation on an as yet unannounced project.

In addition, the company is also working on a number of new and original concepts, giving the company an invaluable portfolio of original intellectual property (IP)

This ensures the company is well positioned to work on any style of game, or on any emerging device or platform – with partners, or on a self-publishing basis.

Cohort's proprietary technologies (based around the open-source Collada file format), allows artists and designers to use the tools they understand – greatly speeding up the creative process.

Working as development partners means that Cohort brings a deeper understanding of client's needs to every project. This in turn reduces client management overheads and ensures a faster, more efficient development cycle.
