Brasil Game Jam
Brasil Game Show spin-off event gets support from Sony.
Sleeping in your sleeping bag and developing a game without stopping. That is how it will be - 10 teams in Brazil for 40 hours: the Game Jam to be held during the Brasil Game Show. In an unusual competition, teams of three students each from universities throughout Brazil will develop digital games in real time. The competition will be coordinated by Dr. Esteban Clua of Fluminense Federal University in Rio de Janeiro. "This competition is an occasion to showcase talent. It's a chance for students to show they are capable to make a casual game with a beginning middle and end, and at times without artistic elements. "The winners will have to show ideas for innovative game play," that’s the clue.
The contest will take place between November 19 th and the 21 st in a space reserved within the Mezzanine level of the SulAmérica Convention Center. On site computers will be available, as well as ancillary equipment and all the necessary support to hold the competition. The winning team will be rewarded with a PlayStation 3 and three national games (God of War 3, Uncharted and Gran Turismo Prologue) for each participant.
The theme of the games to be developed will be drawn at the beginning of the competition and no team will receive any information in advance. Evaluation of the best work will be done by a jury composed of various representatives of the games industry, the specialist press and the academy, based on the following criteria: the degree of innovation of the game, teamwork, gameplay (playability) and accomplishment. The winning game will be made available for download at the event web site.
The tool for developing the games will be limited to the Unity 3D, provided by the competition organizers. However, participants may use any free license tool for modeling and image editing, being responsible for their installation. Any team using any pirated tool will be automatically disqualified.
