Blitz Games Studios appointment

Former Rare chap John Nash takes up the role of studio art director.

19 MARCH 2010 LEAMINGTON SPA, UK Leading independent developer Blitz Games Studios

has appointed John Nash as Studio Design Director, completing its new management strata – the Studio Development Group (SDG). This follows the appointment late last year of Aaron Allport as Studio Art Director. They join Richard Hackett as Studio Technical Director and Chris Viggers as Studio Development Director. The SDG is designed to solidify the senior management team at Blitz and provide support and guidance to all the development teams.

Having originally qualified as a professional illustrator from Falmouth School of Art and Design, John Nash migrated to the games industry in 1993, starting with a seven year stint at Rare. Since then John has averaged nearly one published game each year and has acquired a vast amount of knowledge and experience with regard to game design and content creation.

“Over the last year we have dedicated ourselves to completing the SDG, appointing some of our most talented and respected staff to these important positions,” says Andrew Oliver, BGS CTO and co-founder. “We’re confident that we now have the strongest team possible to continue to move the Studio forward.”

Other senior staff members are also being celebrated this month as Blitz congratulates its first employee to pass the 15 years service mark, Tony Povey. Tony currently holds the position of Technical Manager after working up through the ranks of Junior, Regular and Senior Programmer positions. He is currently working in Blitz’s Volatile Games division on Dead to Rights: Retribution and is the first of four staff to pass the 15 year barrier at Blitz this year.

All this comes as the company prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

Adds Philip Oliver, BGS CEO and co-founder:“When we first started making games from our bedroom it was hard to believe that we’d ever employ nearly 250 people, let alone that some of them would stay with us for so long. We’re delighted that Tony is the first of our staff to pass 15 years service and would like to thank him for his outstanding contribution, hard work and loyalty over the years.”
