Black Ops sells 1.4m in the UK on day one

Game generates around £58 million on release day

Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops sold an estimated 1.4 million units in the UK on launch day, according to UKIE and Chart-Track.

It generated around £58 million, and breaks the record for biggest opening day set last year by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, by 14 per cent. MW2 sold 1.23 million units, and made £47.7 million.

Yesterday Activision revealed that Black Ops sold 5.6 million units in the US and UK combined, pulling in $360 million in revenue.

Despite the stellar start, analysts are predicting that the game is still likely to sell less in the long run than last year's Modern Warfare 2, by around 20 per cent.
